Hand foot and mouth disease in adults - a case report

Ver documento

Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Hand foot and mouth disease is a common viral infection, often caused by coxsackievirus A16 and enterovirus 71, affecting mainly children under 10 years of age. In general, it is a benign condition, characterized by fever and vesicles in the mouth and on distal extremities, but it may also be related with more serious complications such as meningoencephalitis and myocarditis. The authors report a case of hand foot and mouth disease in a 27-years old immunocompetent adult presenting papules on the hands, feet, and in the oral cavity, evolving to vesicles. The clinical exuberance and the prolonged course of the disease were other unusual features.
