Progress in multifunctional and multimodal biomaterials for therapeutic applications

View document

Bibliographic Details
Summary:Humankind is witnessing a rapid progress toward multifunctional materials endowed with multimodal control of their properties. In particular, biomaterials are increasingly providing solutions to complex challenges in the nanomedicine field, from the compartmentalization and delivery of unstable molecules or even the in situ synthesis of biological active molecules to the synergistic theranostic strategies that join therapy and diagnosis in a single system. Hence, considering the complementary of different materials, we intend to provide in this chapter a discussion on the most recent and relevant progress in biomaterials for therapeutic applications, starting from hydrogels and liposomes to the combination of these materials with composites toward smart multifunctional materials.
