Energy harvesting through piezoelectrics for wireless and battery-free switches
| Resumo: | The pursuit of sustainable and autonomous technologies has driven growing in-terest in piezoelectric materials, which can convert mechanical into electrical energy with high reliability. This work examines piezoelectric cantilever structures, aiming to assess their potential to power low-energy wireless switches. The study combines structural and compositional analyses with electromechanical testing to understand how electrical properties influence energy conversion. Owing to their unique electro-mechanical properties, piezoelectric materials emerge as highly promising can-didates for energy harvesting, offering the possibility of powering devices with-out reliance on conventional batteries. Advances in ceramic and polymer-based materials have significantly improved their efficiency, sensitivity, and mechani-cal robustness, enabling operation in harsh or maintenance-free environments. The results demonstrate the importance of optimised piezoelectric configura-tions to optimize energy-harvesting performance, thereby contributing to the development of a new generation of self-sufficient devices. By bridging materi-als science with applied engineering, this research underscores the significant role of piezoelectric materials in advancing autonomous and sustainable tech-nologies. |
