Antenna design for the bio-radar system
| Resumo: | The bio-radar is a system that measures vital signals using the micro-Doppler effect, which establishes a connection between the antennas and the subject’s chest wall movement. The aim of this dissertation is to design a directive antenna, with narrow beamwidth, and low side lobe level, while maintaining compact dimensions. The purpose is to reduce the acquisition of undesired reflections, improving the signal quality. This work explores the dielectric lens technique, as well as the micro-lens arrays, as an alternative to conventional antenna arrays. Different dielectric lens shapes, materials, and dimensions are evaluated to achieve an optimal relation between gain and antenna size. The implementation of the lens on a single microstrip patch resulted in an increase in gain from 6.31 dBi to 13.61 dBi and a decrease in half-power beamwidth from 116.2◦ to 26.3◦. The side lobe level increased from -12.9 dB to -10.7 dB. Moreover, despite the micro-lens array having larger dimensions, it has better performance with a gain of 17.65 dBi, a half-power beamwidth of 16.7◦ and a side lobe level of -11.8 dB. |
