Haverá diferenças de género nas funções neurocognitivas de doentes esquizofrénicos institucionalizados, avaliados através da ACECF (Avaliação Cognitiva Estandardizada Conde Ferreira)?: resultados de um estudo piloto
| Resumo: | The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that there are gender differences in cognitive performance of schizophrenic patients, using CFSCA as a cognitive assessment tool. Nine female patients and 12 male patients, all diagnosed with schizophrenia and institutionalized for more than three years, were assessed using this battery. The results showed that when the criterion of two standard deviation below the mean to consider cognitive deficits was used, no gender differences were found. However, using a less restrict criterion to consider impaired functioning (one SD below the M), women and men differed in specific cognitive domains. The authors concluded that CFSCA was a useful tool for this type of analysis, and highlighted the need for future research to develop appropriate criteria that could discriminate between women and men's cognitive performance. |
