THE VALORIZATION OF POPULAR KNOWLEDGE USING THE AMAZON TUCUPI AS A TOOL FOR TEACHING SCIENCE
| Resumo: | Currently, contextualized education is increasingly sought as a strategy for teaching and learning. In this sense, valuing culture in the school environment can help the interrelationship between school, teachers, students, and society, to develop a link of knowledge. The objective of this work was to use the empirical knowledge of the students about the preparation and consumption of the tucupi, linking it to scientific knowledge, contributing to the students' understanding of contents of Natural Sciences: Biology and Chemistry. The project presents a qualitative-quantitative research, with exploratory and descriptive characteristics. The research occurred comparatively in public schools, one of the state and one federal, in the city of Coari-Am, targeting students from the 3rd year of regular high school and the Young and Adult Teaching (EJA), totaling 111 students participating. The project was divided into four stages: 1st: Application of the initial questionnaire; 2nd: Expository classes with contents of chemistry, biology, and use of common and scientific knowledge in the process of preparation and consumption of tucupi; 3rd: Experimentation: acidity and basicity analysis; 4th: Evaluation and application of the final questionnaire. It was found that contextualization was important to consolidate theoretical and common knowledge among students, showing that chemistry and biology concepts go beyond the school structure, being useful for the formation of students as critical and reflective citizens. The project contributed to the valorization of popular knowledge, demonstrating the social and technological role of biology and chemistry contents taught in schools. |
