Pinturas sobre alquimia podem induzir concepções deturpadas da Ciência?

View document

Bibliographic Details
Summary:This work investigates images of paintings, available on the internet which portrayed alchemy in different centuries. Based on the studies from Epistemologists of Science, we know that there are numerous misleading conceptions about how science works. These mistaken views can cause misunderstanding about the construction of scientific knowledge. These images are often found in some textbooks. Whence the importance of studying them, because their use can reinforce an incomplete and/ or incorrect view of the Science. We analyzed only the paintings and associated comments. We use the software WebQDA to the intersection of assigned information to the paintings. This analysis showed that the paintings have the potential to induce misconceptions about Science, especially individualistic and elitist conceptions of science; rigid, algorithmic; and yet, unproblematic and unhistorical, locked and dogmatic. This article points to new researches studying if use of these paintings in teaching and learning contexts really confirms the indicated potential.
