Resumo:In this paper we present and discuss some of the results achieved within a research that aimed to identify and characterize student’s use of Communication Technologies (CT) to support learning in Portuguese Public Higher Education (PPHE), with a special focus on gender issues. In order to achieve the goals set, a descriptive and exploratory nationwide study was developed and an online questionnaire was chosen for data collection. This article contextualizes the study, presents the main goals and methodological options, as well as some of the obtained results, specifically those related to the impacts associated with the use of CT in learning contexts and the gender influence in the perception of these impacts. The main results suggest that one of the impacts most mentioned is that the use of CT in learning contexts allowed the development of new technological skills as well as facilitated learning and content access. The gender variable seems to influence the perception of some of the impacts associated with the use of CT in learning contexts and, in general, female students perceive more impacts than male students.
