Modular e-commerce tools aimed at circular economy
| Resumo: | Circular Economy business models, which promote resource efficiency and extend product lifecycles, are gaining momentum. However, the software and tools needed for this model are more complex and less developed than those for traditional forward logistics (direct flow of materials from the manufacturer to the customer). The LoopOS product, currently being developed by The Loop Co., intends to provide businesses with a comprehensive approach to Circular Economy by connecting customers, retailers, refurbishers, and warehouses on the same channel, optimizing their retail channels for this business model. This product is multifaceted, comprising several modules that work seamlessly together or in isolation. This internship focuses on developing a Proof of Concept for the Handling Module – a customized Warehouse Management System optimized for reverse logistics that provides businesses the required tools to implement a circular business model, such as tools to support certification, refurbishment, storage, and cost tracking. The Handling module allows warehouse administrators to configure the different sequences of steps that different items must go through to be processed through the warehouse. These sequences of steps, named Handling Flows in the context of this project, support multiple types of tasks, sub processes, and branching. The cost estimation, a very valuable tool for businesses models that deal with repairs and/or refurbishments, is based on multiple factors, namely the usage of consumables and the hourly rate for different types of tasks. |
