Relatório de Estágio - Mestrado em Análises Clínicas
| Resumo: | The purpose of this report is to describe the internship carried out at the SYNLAB Madeira laboratory, as part of the Master's Degree in Clinical Analysis at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Coimbra. The aim of this internship was to consolidate and apply the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired in the curricular units. Throughout the report, the analytical process will be discussed, with a brief description of the areas of Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, and Hematology. The aim of this internship was to integrate the routine of hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, and immunology, in order to apply and consolidate the knowledge acquired in the courses taught throughout the master's degree and to acquire skills related to the methodologies and techniques used in the various areas. This internship report addresses the phases of the laboratory process, which includes the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases. Dengue is a viral infection that can be caused by four serotypes of the Dengue virus (DENV1-4) and is mainly transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. This virus is considered to be the most prevalent and widespread arbovirus in the world and in 2024 the World Health Organization selected dengue as a priority pathogen. This infection is characterized by a wide range of symptoms, which makes laboratory diagnosis essential for its identification. As for treatment, it is mainly based on supportive therapy due to the limitations of licensed vaccines and the absence of antiviral drugs. |
