Skin tissue regeneration based on stimuli-responsive materials
| Resumo: | The skin plays an important role in various functions, including vitamin D production, water loss control, and body temperature regulation. It also contains sensory and autonomic nerves, along with sensory receptors. Unlike internal organs, the skin is continuously exposed to physical damage, UV radiation, and microbes. In the present chapter, we provide an overview of the structural organization of skin to understand its peculiarities and regeneration requirements, and we then summarize the biomaterial properties that are required to support skin repair. Finally, we discuss several examples of stimuli-responsive materials able to provide a supportive environment for cell growth, facilitate the delivery of therapeutic agents, and promote skin tissue repair. |
