We survey methods and results of fractional differential equations in which an unknown function is under the operation of integration and/or differentiation of fractional order. As an illustrative example, we review results as regards fractional integral and differential equations of thermistor type. Several nonlocal problems are considered: problems concerned with Riemann–Liouville, Caputo, and time-scale fractional operators. The existence and uniqueness of positive solutions are obtained through suitable fixed-point theorems in proper Banach spaces. Additionally, existence and continuation theorems are given, ensuring global existence.

We study an optimal control problem associated to a fractional nonlocal thermistor problem involving the ABC (Atangana-Baleanu-Caputo) fractional time derivative. We first prove the existence and uniqueness of solution. Then, we show that an optimal control exists. Moreover, we obtain the optimality system that characterizes the control.

We develop a fully discrete scheme for time-fractional diffusion equations by using a finite difference method in time and a finite element method in space. The fractional derivatives are used in Caputo sense. Stability and error estimates are derived. The accuracy and efficiency of the presented method is shown by conducting two numerical examples.

The main aim of the present work is to study and analyze a reaction-diffusion fractional version of the SIR epidemic mathematical model by means of the non-local and non-singular ABC fractional derivative operator with complete memory effects. Existence and uniqueness of solution for the proposed fractional model is proved. Existence of an optimal control is also established. Then, necessary optimality conditions are derived. As a consequence, a characterization of the optimal control is given. Lastly, numerical results are given with the aim to show the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy, which provides significant results using the AB fractional derivative operator in the Caputo sense, comparing it with the classical integer one. The results show the importance of choosing very well the fractional characterization of the order of the operators.

Outros Autores: Tahiri, Mostafa; Torres, Delfim F. M.
In this paper, we study an epidemic model with Atangana-Baleanu-Caputo (ABC) fractional derivative. We obtain a special solution using an iterative scheme via Laplace transformation. Uniqueness and existence of a solution using the Banach fixed point theorem are studied. A detailed analysis of the stability of the special solution is presented. Finally, our generalized model in the ABC fractional derivative sense is solved numerically by the Adams-Bashforth-Moulton method.

The main aim of this study is to analyze a fractional parabolic SIR epidemic model of a reaction-diffusion, by using the nonlocal Caputo fractional time-fractional derivative and employing the $p$-Laplacian operator. The immunity is imposed through the vaccination program, which is regarded as a control variable. Finding the optimal control pair that reduces the number of sick people, the associated vaccination, and treatment expenses across a constrained time and space is our main study. The existence and uniqueness of the nonnegative solution for the spatiotemporal SIR model are established. It is also demonstrated that an optimal control exists. In addition, we obtain a description of the optimal control in terms of state and adjoint functions. Then, the optimality system is resolved by a discrete iterative scheme that converges after an appropriate test, similar to the forward-backward sweep method. Finally, numerical approximations are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed control program, which provides meaningful results using different values of the fractional order and $p$, respectively the order of the Caputo derivative and the $p$-Laplacian operators.
