This paper intends to determine the level of financial literacy of students of polytechnic students of the Association of North region Polytechnics (Associação de Politécnicos do Norte - APNOR) in the different scientific areas. It also intends to verify if exist differences among the students between schools. For this purpose, a survey by questionnaire is used as data collection method, within students enrolled in the APNOR network as target population. The questionnaire consists of questions of financial inclusion and account management, expenditure planning and savings, choice and knowledge of information sources, as well as the characterization of the respondent. A sample of 1405 valid surveys were considered. The overall financial literacy rate is medium low (average 44.25%; standard deviation 9.26%). Students in the Economics, Management and Accounting area have an average ILFG higher than other enrolled in other areas. The students in Educational Sciences and Teacher Education and Architecture, Fine Arts and Design areas have the lowest ILFG. The vast majority of students showed very low levels when analyzing the ILF by the dimension related to knowledge of information (group 3). These results lead us to realize that the polytechnic institutes should promote further training to improve these transversal skills in their students.

Introduction Sexual assault crimes are ubiquitous; usually unwitnessed, so victim’s statements may be the only direct evidence that it has occurred. Medical examination and biological samples collection are of inequivocal importance. Presence of spermatozoa in smears, elevated acid phosphatase and the presence of Y-STR profiler in the victim’s evidence’s, could be crucial to corroborate victim’s testimony. The Y chromosome is far the most important scientific evidence, not only due to it’s gender specificity and easy amplification in a male/female mixtures, but also because it can easily contribute for the number of unrelated male contributor’s estimation in an biological evidence. The aim of this study is to ascertain a few characteristics concerning sexual harassment and a Y-haplotype profile obtention, which may help to prove or disprove a link between individuals and objects or places. Methodology Biological samples from 782 sexual assault cases were studied. Glass slide vaginal and anal smears were stained with Papanicolau’s and Harris Hematoxilin Solution. For the phosphatase test, a commercially available test paper strip was used (Phosphatesmo KM). DNA was extracted by phenol chloroform method and PCR amplification was performed with Powerplex® Y (Promega) or AmpF1STR Y-Filer (Applied Biosystems). Fragment analysis was done by capillary electrophoresis in an ABI 3130xl. Laboratory results were compared with other data such as, victim age, alleged assailant number, time between the act and collection of biological samples. Significant variables were entered in a logistic regression model using SPSS 17.0 for data analysis. Results and conclusion Descriptive analysis reveals that victim’s age varies between 1 to 90 years old, but almost 20% were under 12 years old. Almost 87% of cases had one perpetrator. Only 10% of the victim’s declared that they had consent sexual intercourse, in the previous 48 hours and 32% take a bath before the exam. Another variable studied was the mean time of 15 hours between the act and biological sample collection. Logistic regression demonstrates that the last two variables are of considerable importance in Y-profile obtention. Concerning acid phosphatase results a male genetic identification was obtained in 12,5 % of the negative cases. In conclusion, Y-STRs study, due to their sensitivity and specificity, should be used in every sexual assault cases, contributing to the final identification of perpetrator’s, and corroborating the victim’s story.

Opioids for Cancer Pain and its Use under Particular Conditions: A Narrative Review

Introduction: All health professionals should be aware of the importance of evaluating pain - fifth vital sign- in cancer patients. Peripheral and central acting analgesics are widely used to treat moderate to severe pain, particularly cancer pain. Many guidelines have addressed this issue. However, real life patients’ have other problems and comorbidities that may raise doubts when prescribing.Material and Methods: Authors made a literature search, trying to clarify same specific situations: loss of oral route, renal impairment (hemodialysis), hepatic impairment, frequent opiod interactions and the availability of short-acting formulations. Results: The following medicines were included in this analysis: the natural opiates (morphine and codeine), their synthetic and semisynthetic derivatives (hydromorphone, oxycodone, and fentanyl), the partial agonist buprenorphine and finally tramadol and tapentadol. Transdermal systems are only available for buprenorphine and fentanyl. In hepatic impairment, fentanyl is safe, but with the exception of codeine and tramadol; other opioids should be used with caution. In renal failure: fentanyl, hydromorphone, and tapentadol are safe. Morphine should be avoided; other opioids should be used with caution. In hemodialysis, buprenorphine, fentanyl, hydromorphone and tramadol (at doses up to 200 mg/day) may be used.Discussion: Failure to recognize the impact of various situations described throughout this work, including the bioavailability due to loss of oral route, due to pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the various drugs, either in the context of the impaired metabolism or excretion, or in due to pharmacological interactions, conditions a serious risk of subtreatment of pain and consequent impact in terms of quality of life. Conclusion: Opioid prescription is safe and effective, even in moderate to severe comorbidities such as renal and hepatic impairment and in patients with no oral route available. In this case, as when considering pharmacological interactions, an individualized therapeutic plan is the best solution and the patient should be assessed regularly. Unadjusted doses may relate to bad pain control and a higher prevalence of adverse events.

This article seeks to build the history of Deaf Education in Brazil, based on the analysis of teaching approaches: Oralism, Total Communication and Bilingualism, based on discussions of pedagogical practices implemented in schools at different historical moments. The motto of this discussion and analysis are the pedagogical guidelines, and in particular the activities developed in the classroom. When thinking about Deaf Education and the implication of the approaches in the different periods one cannot construct a linear and sequential continuum, but there must be an existence diluted and diffused in different degrees in different historical periods. The didactic division of the three great approaches cannot compromise the understanding of this object, making it simplistic. The impacts of the different approaches for Deaf Education can be verified in the students’ schooling process. The fact that practices characterized by an approach that would theoretically belong to the nineteenth century are present in an effective way in the classroom and in pedagogical practices, in the teacher-student relationship and in our contemporary social representations of the deaf student in the school environment.

    Olhar(es) sobre a compaixão

    Publication
    by Vieira, Cláudia Sintra

Cloud computing (CN) refers for sharing of computing resources, which can be combined with each other, such as data storage and communication, processing capacity (servers and memory), software, applications, and services. The CN differs from the public, private and hybrid deployment model and the service model known as 'as a service': infrastructure, platform and software. The objective of this research was to identify the factors that influence the adoption of cloud computing by the firms in Brazil. The proposed research model included perceived benefits and risks and perceived innovation attributes of the diffusion innovations theory (relative advantage, compatibility, observation, testing, and complexity) as exogenous latent variables and CN adoption as an endogenous latent variable. The research was applied to private companies through a questionnaire available on the internet and 135 responses were obtained, and PLS-PM (Partial Least Square - Path Modeling) was used. The results obtained indicated that the seven factors influence CN adoption, and the relative advantage, compatibility, observation, testing, and perceived benefits are positively associated with the adoption of NC and perceived complexity and risks are negatively associated to adoption. The perceived risks factor had the greatest influence on adoption, and the higher the risk the lower the adoption and vice versa. In this way, identifying and understanding the factors influencing CN adoption can help the actors (firms, suppliers, developers and others) involved in this process to take action and decisions according to their needs and strategies.
