Develop an integrative review about orbital infection by penetrating foreign body, through the analysis of gender and most prevalent age, etiology, signs and symptoms, surgical approach and sequelae. In addition, to report a case of orbital infection by a penetrating foreign body with severe mouth opening limitation. It consists of two stages: first, two authors independently searched for articles on orbital infection by penetrating foreign bodies in the databases "MEDLINE / PubMed", "Scielo" and "Scopus '', using descriptors combined with the Boolean operators. The second stage consists of a case report of orbital cellulitis after penetration of a foreign body (“piece” of wood) in an orbit floor. This lesion was more common in males (75%), with an average age of 41.7 years, due to work accidents (33.3), evolving with signs and symptoms of skin lesion, pain, ophthalmoplegia, low visual acuity and abscess. The most used surgical approach is the orbitotomy (41.7%), with patients without post-surgical sequelae (50%). The case should be managed by a multidisciplinary team, with an immediate approach, avoiding the spread of infection to the intracranial region. It was also concluded that the risk of infection is directly related to the nature of the foreign body material.

Periapical cysts are formed by the inflammatory process of the epithelium at the apex of non-vital teeth. It usually presents characteristics of slow growth, asymptomatic and of small extension. In this study, the objective is to report a case of periapical cyst with atypical size, submitted to surgical approach. Here, this is a qualitative, descriptive, retrospective study carried out using the technique of direct observation, respecting all ethical protocols. A 74-year-old female patient attended the Buco-maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology service at Hospital da Restauração Governador Paulo Guerra - Recife, referred by a dentist after analysis of a routine image exam suggestive of a cystic lesion in the mandible. On physical examination, she presented a slight bulging in the vestibular cortex of the right mandibular body, asymptomatic to the touch. Computed tomography revealed a hypodense, unilocular area, circumscribed by a hyperdense line, covering the region of teeth lower lateral incisor, right lower cuspid (canine), right lower firt premolar and right lower second premolar. Based on the clinical examination, the diagnostic hypothesis of periapical cyst was established, confirmed after histopathological analysis. . As a therapeutic approach, it was decided to perform enucleation, peripheral osteotomy and extractions of the teeth involved under general anesthesia. After 8 months of follow-up, she shows no sign of recurrence. Thus, it is clear the importance of correct diagnosis, as well as the efficacy of surgical intervention as a treatment for large periapical lesions.

ABSTRACT The adenomatoid odontogenic tumor is a benign, non-invasive tumor and has a slow growth. Its preferred location is the anterior maxillary area, most often causing root displacement, more rarely resorption and mostly affects young women. Being asymptomatic, this injury is discovered upon routine radiographic examination, in which, in most cases, a unilocular, radiolucent image is observed and it may have some degree of calcification within the lesion. This work aims to report the case of a 14-year-old patient who attended the Lauro Wanderley University Hospital (UFPB), complaining of increased volume over a period of 8 months, in the region of non-vital tooth 21. The CT scan showed well-delimited unilocular, radiolucent lesion, with buccal cortex resorption. The proposed treatment plan involved enucleation, followed by peripheral ostectomy and bone graft with alloplastic materials. Because of its benign character, encapsulated and slow growing, the treatment of choice for adenomatoid odontogenic tumor is conservative, the surgical enucleation of the injury being advocated. The excised piece was sent for histopathological analysis, where the AOT diagnosis was confirmed. After 7 months, new bone formation was observed without signs of recurrence.

The epidermal cyst (CE), also known as sebaceous cyst, is a lump similar to a lump, the same skin color, whitish, or yellowish, which has a variable size and can be single or multiple, with a hard, elastic consistency. fluctuation or pus when inflamed. They affect patients of any age, are benign and most common on the face, neck and trunk, although they can affect any region of the body. Occasionally, they cause pain and are reddish in color. The objective of this work is to report a clinical case of a patient who sought the service of Buco-maxillofacial surgery and traumatology at Hospital da Restauração, Recife-PE, with a history of swelling due to a cystic characteristic after local trauma, discussing thus, the diagnosis based on imaging and histopathological exams and its surgical treatment. C.E can represent a great risk to the patient's health, since it can generate significantly deleterious effects, ranging from large aesthetic defects to airway obstruction, which can promote death, if not handled correctly. Thus, it is necessary to emphasize the need for the surgeon's knowledge, so that in this way the diagnosis and treatment are effective and the patient is minimally affected by the morbidities of this pathological entity.

Because of their location, sphenoplatin artery pseudoaneurysms (PAS) are extremely rare. Its formation is from a partial rupture of the endothelium, resulting in blood leakage in the surrounding tissues. Here, we report this case of PAS after assaulting the face by a firearm projectile, followed by uncontrollable epistaxis. It is important that professionals be aware of this unusual complication of facial trauma and alternatives for the treatment of pseudoaneurysms. Embolization provides a safe and effective method for the treatment of these vascular lesions.

Introduction: Ameloblastoma is a benign neoplasm characterized by the proliferation of odontogenic epithelium that mainly affects the gnathic bones and, due to its invasive and expansive growth, presents high rates of recurrence to surgical treatment. Among the most conservative treatments are enucleation and marsupialization; among radicals, resections are more widespread. Objective: The objective is to present, through a case report, conservative surgical treatment with enucleation followed by the use of the Carnoy solution. Case report: A 24-year-old male patient arrives at the outpatient clinic of Hospital da Restauração with painful complaints of mild and constant intensity in the region of the left mandibular angle, with an evolution of three weeks. After a panoramic X-ray, the presence of the included 38 tooth was associated with an extensive unilocular radiolucent lesion, surrounding the angle and mandibular ramus. Preoperative examinations were performed for incisional biopsy. Histopathological diagnosis was unicystic ameloblastoma. In view of the histopathology obtained, we opted for enucleation of the lesion with concomitant use of direct Carnoy solution in the region of the lesion. Discussion: The choice of therapeutic behavior depends on the size, type of lesion, location and histopathology. After the surgical decision, a radiographic clinical follow-up is necessary to assess possible recurrences. Carnoy's solution is a cauterizing agent with moderate tissue penetration, rapid local fixation and hemostatic action, whose surgical use in cystic lesions has occurred since the beginning of the 20th century. Conclusion: Conservative treatment with the enucleation technique followed by complementary therapy using Carnoy's solution proved to be quite effective.

Objective: To explore existing studies on the association between periodontal disease during pregnancy and pre-eclampsia, in view of the recent studies that periodontal pathogens can spread through fetal and placental tissues causing adverse effects on the health of the mother child. Method: Literature review carried out through scientific documents accessed in the MEDLINE, SCIELO and LILACS-BIREME databases, using the following descriptors: periodontal disease, microbiology, pre-eclampsia and pregnancy complications. The selection of studies was carried out through the collection and analysis of the most important references on the proposed theme. Literature review: The data collected show that the production and release of inflammatory mediators resulting from lesions in the periodontium also play an important role in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia, corroborating this association. Discussion: In addition, periodontal bacteria such as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella intermedia, Agregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Fusobacterium nucleatum ssp have been described as participants in the process of developing preeclampsia in pregnant women with periodontal disease. Conclusion: Knowledge about the adverse effects of pre-eclampsia in patients with periodontal disease may suggest contributions to an effective prenatal control with greater attention to dental care.

Ludwig's angina, considered a medical emergency, is an infection that affects the submandibular, sublingual, and submental spaces, presenting a course of rapid and potentially fatal evolution. The purpose of this report is to describe the treatment of a case of Ludwing's Angina, due to dental infection, associated with cervicofacial and mediastinal complications. The female patient appeared with a history of increased volume in the region in the bilateral and submental submandibular region, complaints of dysphagia, and dyspnea, in addition to trismus. The patient was initially treated employing drainage and extraction of the element that caused the infection, 72 hours after the operation, however, the patient returned to dyspnea. For the treatment of this complication, there was the option to perform cervicotomy associated with broad-spectrum antibiotic therapy. The therapeutic approach containing airway maintenance, cervicotomy, antibiotic therapy, as well as the removal of the etiological factor was effective for the management of this case of Ludwing's angina complication.

Dentofacial deformity is described as a condition in which the jaw bones are out of normal, where malocclusion exists and facial aesthetics are affected. This condition affects about 20% of the world population and requires an accurate diagnosis. Orthognathic surgery in combination with orthodontic treatment is the treatment of choice for the correction of dentofacial deformities, due to its high complexity, a multidisciplinary approach is necessary to perform such treatment. This paper aims to discuss the diagnosis and treatment of dentofacial deformities through a literature review and presentation of a clinical case. In the case reported, the patient with class III dentofacial deformity underwent orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery planned virtually using the Dolphin 3D software. After the surgical procedure, a significant improvement in facial harmony and occlusal stability was observed. Such results are maintained in a two-year postoperative follow-up. Virtual planning in orthognathic surgery is becoming increasingly important, allowing surgeons to simulate multiple options of jaw movements until the best results are obtained for the patient.
