Anomalous diffusion of pions at RHIC

    Publication
    by Csanád,M.
    Other Authors: Csörgo,T.; Nagy,M.
    Origin: Oasisbr
After pointing out the difference between normal and anomalous diffusion, we consider a hadron resonance cascade (HRC) model simulation for particle emission at RHIC and point out that rescattering in an expanding hadron resonance gas leads to a heavy tail in the source distribution. The results are compared to recent PHENIX measurements of the tail of the particle emitting source in Au+Au collisions at RHIC. In this context, we show how can one distinguish experimentally the anomalous diffusion of hadrons from a second order QCD phase transition.

Accelerating solutions of perfect fluid hydrodynamics for initial energy density and life-time measurements in heavy ion collisions

    Publication
    by Csörgo,T.
    Other Authors: Nagy,M. I.; Csanád,M.
    Origin: Oasisbr
A new class of accelerating, exact, explicit and simple solutions of relativistic hydrodynamics is presented. Since these new solutions yield a finite rapidity distribution, they lead to an advanced estimate of the initial energy density and life-time of high energy heavy ion collisions. Accelerating solutions are also given for spherical expansions in arbitrary number of spatial dimensions.

Odderon Exchange from Elastic Scattering Differences between pp and p p ¯ Data at 1.96 TeV and from pp Forward Scattering Measurements

    Publication
    by Abazov, V. M.
    Other Authors: Abbott, B.; Acharya, B. S.; Adams, M.; Adams, T.; Agnew, J. P. et al.
    Origin: Oasisbr
We describe an analysis comparing the pp¯ elastic cross section as measured by the D0 Collaboration at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV to that in pp collisions as measured by the TOTEM Collaboration at 2.76, 7, 8, and 13 TeV using a model-independent approach. The TOTEM cross sections, extrapolated to a center-of-mass energy of s=1.96 TeV, are compared with the D0 measurement in the region of the diffractive minimum and the second maximum of the pp cross section. The two data sets disagree at the 3.4σ level and thus provide evidence for the t-channel exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound, also known as the odderon. We combine these results with a TOTEM analysis of the same C-odd exchange based on the total cross section and the ratio of the real to imaginary parts of the forward elastic strong interaction scattering amplitude in pp scattering for which the significance is between 3.4σ and 4.6σ. The combined significance is larger than 5σ and is interpreted as the first observation of the exchange of a colorless, C-odd gluonic compound.

Search for Low Mass Vector Resonances Decaying to Quark-Antiquark Pairs in Proton-Proton Collisions at s =13 TeV

    Publication
    by Sirunyan, A. M.
Other Authors: Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T. et al.
    Origin: Oasisbr
A search is reported for a narrow vector resonance decaying to quark-antiquark pairs in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.7 fb-1. The vector resonance is produced at large transverse momenta, with its decay products merged into a single jet. The resulting signature is a peak over background in the distribution of the invariant mass of the jet. The results are interpreted in the framework of a leptophobic vector resonance and no evidence is found for such particles in the mass range of 100-300 GeV. Upper limits at 95% confidence level on the production cross section are presented in a region of mass-coupling phase space previously unexplored at the LHC. The region below 140 GeV has not been explored by any previous experiments.

Measurement of the B± Meson Nuclear Modification Factor in Pb-Pb Collisions at sNN =5.02 TeV

    Publication
    by Sirunyan, A. M.
Other Authors: Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J. et al.
    Origin: Oasisbr
The differential production cross sections of B± mesons are measured via the exclusive decay channels B±→J/ψK±→μ+μ-K± as a function of transverse momentum in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy sNN=5.02 TeV per nucleon pair with the CMS detector at the LHC. The pp(Pb-Pb) data set used for this analysis corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 28.0 pb-1 (351 μb-1). The measurement is performed in the B± meson transverse momentum range of 7 to 50 GeV/c, in the rapidity interval |y|<2.4. In this kinematic range, a strong suppression of the production cross section by about a factor of 2 is observed in the Pb-Pb system in comparison to the expectation from pp reference data. These results are found to be roughly compatible with theoretical calculations incorporating beauty quark diffusion and energy loss in a quark-gluon plasma.

Search for Supersymmetry in pp Collisions at s =13 TeV in the Single-Lepton Final State Using the Sum of Masses of Large-Radius Jets

    Publication
    by Sirunyan, A. M.
Other Authors: Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T. et al.
    Origin: Oasisbr
Results are reported from a search for supersymmetric particles in proton-proton collisions in the final state with a single lepton, multiple jets, including at least one b-tagged jet, and large missing transverse momentum. The search uses a sample of proton-proton collision data at s=13 TeV recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb-1. The observed event yields in the signal regions are consistent with those expected from standard model backgrounds. The results are interpreted in the context of simplified models of supersymmetry involving gluino pair production, with gluino decay into either on- or off-mass-shell top squarks. Assuming that the top squarks decay into a top quark plus a stable, weakly interacting neutralino, scenarios with gluino masses up to about 1.9 TeV are excluded at 95% confidence level for neutralino masses up to about 1 TeV.

Measurement of the differential cross sections for the associated production of a W boson and jets in proton-proton collisions at s =13 TeV

    Publication
    by Sirunyan, A. M.
Other Authors: Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Ambrogi, F.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T. et al.
    Origin: Oasisbr
A measurement of the differential cross sections for a W boson produced in association with jets in the muon decay channel is presented. The measurement is based on 13 TeV proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.2 fb-1, recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The cross sections are reported as functions of jet multiplicity, jet transverse momentum pT, jet rapidity, the scalar pT sum of the jets, and angular correlations between the muon and each jet for different jet multiplicities. The measured cross sections are in agreement with predictions that include multileg leading-order (LO) and next-to-LO matrix element calculations interfaced with parton showers, as well as a next-to-next-to-LO calculation for the W boson and one jet production.

Search for dark matter produced in association with heavy-flavor quark pairs in proton-proton collisions at √s=13TeV

    Publication
    by Sirunyan, A. M.
Other Authors: Tumasyan, A.; Adam, W.; Asilar, E.; Bergauer, T.; Brandstetter, J. et al.
    Origin: Oasisbr
A search is presented for an excess of events with heavy-flavor quark pairs (tt¯ and bb¯) and a large imbalance in transverse momentum in data from proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.2fb-1 collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. No deviations are observed with respect to standard model predictions. The results are used in the first interpretation of dark matter production in tt¯ and bb¯ final states in a simplified model. This analysis is also the first to perform a statistical combination of searches for dark matter produced with different heavy-flavor final states. The combination provides exclusions that are stronger than those achieved with individual heavy-flavor final states.
