The linear quadratic optimal regulator is one of the most powerful techniques for designing multivariable control systems. The performance of the system is specified in terms of a cost, which is the integral of a weighted quadratic function of the system state and control inputs, that is to be minimized by the optimal controller. The components of the state cost weighting matrix, Q, and the control cost weighting matrix, R, are ours to choose in mathematically specifying the way we wish the system to perform. Changing these matrices, we can modify the transient behavior of the closed-loop system. This paper addresses the stabilization and performance of the load-frequency controller by using the theory of the optimal control. A new technique, based on pole placement using optimal regulators, to overcome the difficulties of specifying weighting matrices Q and R is proposed. The design method employs successive shifting of either a real pole or a pair of complex conjugate poles at a time. The proposed technique builds Q and R in such a way that the system response also obeys conventional criteria for the system pole location. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by numerical examples.

This chapter presents a study of the small signal stability applied to an electric power system, with the consideration of the Power System Stabilizer and using the optimal control theory. A new technique is proposed, which is based on pole placement using optimal state feedback for damping electromechanical oscillation under small signal. The proposed technique builds the weighting matrices of the quadratic terms for the state vector Q and control vector R in such a way that the system response also obeys conventional criteria for the system pole location. Besides, when the number of output variables is less than the order of the system, it is proposed an optimal output feedback approach, where a set of closed-loop system poles is allocated to an arbitrary position by means of a suitable output feedback. The Power Sensitivity Model is used to represent the electric power system. Information about the stability of the electric power system, when subjected to small disturbances, is illustrated by using numerical examples.

O artigo estuda o fenômeno do retrato documental a partir da tendência desse gênero de expandir suas fronteiras e incluir identidades antes excluídas. No caso da produção recente, o documentário latino-americano não só aborda setores sociais precários pela política económica do neoliberalismo, mas também constrói uma estética precária como resposta à precariedade social.

Introduction: Neoplasia is considered the second disease with the highest morbidity and mortality. Hospital-level care is often unavoidable. The objective of Home Hospitalization (HH) is to minimize hospital complications and provide greater satisfaction to the patient and family/caregiver. Material and Methods: This article reports one year of HH experience at the Unidade Local de Saúde of Castelo Branco with regard to patients with oncological pathology. Results/Discussion: In the first year of HH, 99 patients were admitted, 22.2% (n = 22) of whom had oncological pathology. Sixty four percent were male and the average age was 65.9 years old (±12.8). The average hospital stay was 6.8 days (±3.4). Seventy seven percent had active cancer disease. The main existing neoplasias were: 31.8% lung, 22.7% hematological, 18.1% prostate and 13.6% breast. Of these, 58.8% were under chemotherapy and 17.6% had undergone recent surgery or radiation therapy. The main comorbidities found in these patients were: hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and chronic pain. The main reasons for hospitalization were: febrile neutropenia (36.3%), respiratory infection (27.2%) and pain control (13.6%). One patient died, one was transferred to hospital and three readmissions. Ninety days after discharge, 63.6% did not return to the hospital. Conclusion: Hospitalization in patients with neoplasia is very common. These are at increased risk of suffering from in-hospital infections, which increases mortality. The HH is advantageous because it reduces complications and provides a better quality of life for patients, given that they are undergoing qualified treatment in their own home.

Resumo: Interações entre professores e alunos produzem impactos nas aprendizagens acadêmica e social das crianças. Este estudo objetivou identificar associações e predições entre variáveis de habilidades sociais educativas, práticas educativas negativas, problemas de comportamentos e habilidades sociais infantis de alunos diferenciados pela escolaridade, indicadores clínicos de problemas de comportamento e sexo. Participaram do estudo 283 crianças da rede pública de ensino e seus professores que responderam a questionários e participaram de entrevista semiestruturada. Conduziram-se análises estatísticas de correlação e regressão. Em todos os grupos houve correlações positivas entre habilidades sociais educativas e infantis e práticas educativas negativas e problemas de comportamento. Para pré-escolares, as queixas de problemas e as habilidades sociais apresentaram valores preditivos. Para escolares, as variáveis supracitadas, somadas às práticas educativas positivas e negativas, indicaram valores preditivos. Conclui-se que professores podem atuar como fator protetivo ao desenvolvimento infantil, o que requer planejamento.
