The nursing work conditions are surrounded by physical and chemical risks that result in a high number of absences as well as leaves. The purpose of this study was to characterize the absences of nursing workers from a University Hospital located in the city of São José do Rio Preto-SP during the year of 1999. This is a census epidemiological investigation. Data were collected from registries of the Hospital Workers' Attendance Center. Results showed that 333 workers were involved in 662 episodes of absences during this period. Sick leaves of nurses, nursing technicians and auxiliaries occurred mainly due to genitourinary tract disorders and other diseases. With respect to nursing aids, the causes of absences were: disturbances in sensory organs, infectious parasitic and respiratory diseases. These data enabled a better analysis of that hospital's environment as well as the improvement of these professionals' work conditions.

1989 and consequences: the representations of absence in the post-Mauer German films

    Publicação

    Origem: Oasisbr
It might sound odd to work with the theme of absence, a theme which has occupied the minds of anthropologists, artists, and semioticians for a long time. So we present a brief conceptualization of absence and a short panorama of German movie after 1989, to show how film and literature have developed similarly in the same period. The main goal of this analysis is to detect structures of absence in German films after the German reunification. To illustrate the representation of absence, we propose an analysis of film stills. We rely mainly on the theories and concepts of Lehmann/Weibel, of the German philosopher Bernhard Waldenfels, as well as those of Gilles Deleuze and Michel Chion.

Current investigation describes the behavioral and electrographic characteristics of spontaneous absence-like seizures identified in Wistar rats (referred to here as FMUSP-rats, after the Faculty of Medicine, University of São Paulo, São Paulo State, Brazil), and characterized by spike-wave discharges (SWDs) in the neocortex and the hippocampus. After consanguineous crossing directed to an increased incidence of seizures, the latter were observed in almost all F9 offspring. FMUSP-rat seizures are expressed as immobility and concomitant SWDs, oscillating between 7.5 and 12 Hz in the frontoparietal cortex and the hippocampus. Behaviorally, they are mainly associated with clonic movements of the eyes, rostrum and vibrissae, the latter ranging between 1 and 70 seconds and occur at a rate of up to 229 per hour. Systemic injections of ethosuximide (0, 25, 50, 100, 250 mg kg-1) and of diazepam (15 mg kg-1) increased the latency for the first seizure and reduced both the hourly incidence of SWD bursts and their mean duration. Carbamazepine (30 mg kg-1) injections increased both the incidence and duration of the SWDs, leaving the latency for the first seizure unchanged. Comparisons between FMUSP-rats and well-established genetic models of absence seizures data indicated that the animals described herein might contribute towards studies on the neurological condition under analysis.

Between text and image: death as a photoliterary theme in Nadja by André Breton

    Publicação
    por Mantovani, Juliana
In this article, we propose to analyze Nadja (1928), by André Breton, under the aspect of the photoliterary relations established by use of photographs in its composition. Composed of the association between text and photographic images, this work offers numerous possibilities of analysis, among which the photoliterary evocation of death. We will demonstrate how the relations between text and image act in the construction of the topic of death in this work. For this, we count on the theoretical contribution of Photoliterary Studies (Montier, 2008; 2015; Grojnowski, 2002) and in particular on the critical explorations of the work focused on this theme, as well as theorists who have dedicated themselves to reflect on the relations between literature, photography, empty space, absence and death.

Arte e Ausência: O Papel do Objecto na Obra de Andy Goldsworthy

    Publicação
    por Gouveia, Fábio
In this essay, the work of the British artist Andy Goldsworthy provides a starting point for an analysis of the role played by the object in regard to the work of art. Confronting both his sculptural production and his photographic estate with theoretical writings on the nature of the work of art, as well as the work of other artists, I argue that the physical presence of an object is not a sine qua non condition to the existence and appreciation of a work of art. Analysing the way in which an audience is presented with Goldsworthy’s work (whether in a gallery, museum, book, video, or internet), I aim at drawing a clear distinction between concepts such as ?work of art and ?artistic object, upholding the claim that the experience of the work of art is mental and possible through a reproduction.
