Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors affecting user acceptance for NFC mobilewallets in both Korean and US markets.Design/methodology/approach – The proposed model extends the UTAUT2 model with newconstructs of credibility (CR) and service smartness (SS). This study was analyzed using partial least squarestructural equation modeling on data collected from 701 college students between the ages of 18 and 29.Findings – The results of this study demonstrate that performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy(EE), CR, SS and habit (HB) have strong positive relationships with a user’s behavioral intention to useNFC mobile wallets. Comparing the results of the USA and South Korea, there are different resultsregarding PE and CR.Research limitations/implications – This study shows that all factors except social influence (SI)have significant positive relationships with the intention to adopt NFC mobile wallets: Among theoriginal UTUAT2 factors, PE, EE and HB are important determinants of NFC mobile wallet adoptionand the new constructs, CR and SS, are significant determinants that influence BI. However, the targetrespondents are limited to college students of South Korea and the USA Thus, caution should be usedwhen applying the results of this study towards less ICT developed countries and towards different agegroups.Practical implications – This study provides multiple practical contributions. First, this studyemphasizes HB as the strongest factor for adopting NFC mobile wallets in both South Korea and the USASecond, this study also highlights the importance of SS. Third, this study reveals that SI is not associated withthe adoption of NFC mobile wallets. Fourth, nationality differences between the USA and South Koreaaccount for the differences in consumer behaviors.Originality/value – This study has two main contributions: First, this study introduces a modifiedUTAUT2 model with two new variables (CR and SS) useful for NFC mobile wallets. Second, this studycompares the results of partial least square structured equation models (PLS-SEM) of the two nationalitygroups, South Korea and the USA

Augmented reality in retail: an experimental case study

    Publicação
por Santos, Ana Filipa da Costa Lopes dos
The presented research seeks to deepen the intersection between augmented reality (AR) and consumer behaviour in a retail setting. In an attempt to better understand these concepts, a comprehensive literature review was conducted on customer journey, augmented reality (respective types and user experience), case studies in retail and marketing strategies. Thus, an experimental case study was designed with the objective to bring an AR experience, created on Adobe Aero, to the customers of a historical café in Lisbon, named ‘A Brasileira’. Considering that there is still a lack of comprehensive understanding of consumer behaviour towards AR in retail, we presented a conceptual framework which intended to examine how consumer behaviour determinants, such as social motivation, hedonic motivation, utilitarian motivation, mediated by performance expectancy, effort expectancy and emotions, influenced AR acceptance and purchase intention. Data were collected from 102 respondents via a questionnaire after an in situ visit to the café. Subsequently, the data was analysed using path analysis in Jamovi software. The findings revealed significant positive indirect effects of social motivation and utilitarian motivation on the AR use acceptance and purchase intention through performance expectancy and emotions. The study concludes that performance expectancy and emotions are important mediators in AR’s substantial potential to improve customer journeys in retail.

The upsurge of the Covid-19 pandemic and the consequent lockdown led to school closure globally. Across the globe, students have been away from schools and their teachers. To cope up with this educational emergency, in Portugal all levels of education suspended face-to-face classes and were replaced by online activities. Within this context, the teacher involved in this study sought to adapt the activities and teaching materials to the exclusive use of technology and promoted asynchronous tasks, which could be developed independently and in an autonomous way by the students. In order to understand students´ perspectives on the transition to emergency remote teaching, a quantitative survey was conducted. The participants in the study are undergraduate students from a Portuguese Higher Education institution attending the curricular unit of Public Relations in Tourism. The analysis of the students’ responses to the questionnaire applied highlighted the main positive and negative aspects experienced, bringing contributions to a discussion on factors that determine the success of remote education.

Wearable technologies have emerged as promising tools for supporting Occupational Safety and Health through continuous and multimodal monitoring of physiological, biomechanical, and environmental risk factors. However, evidence regarding their real-world effectiveness and implementation remains fragmented. This study presents a systematic literature review conducted in accordance with PRISMA 2020 guidelines, synthesizing evidence from 60 studies addressing wearable-based monitoring, assessment, and intervention in occupational contexts. The review examines the types of technologies applied, the risks and functions addressed, the evidence on effectiveness, the evaluation metrics used, and the main barriers affecting implementation. The findings show that wearable technologies are mainly applied to ergonomic, physiological, environmental, and critical-event risks, using devices such as inertial sensors, biosensors, smart personal protective equipment, and exoskeletons. While the evidence indicates strong potential for real-time monitoring, risk detection, and data-informed decision-making, most studies rely on controlled or short-term evaluations, and consistent evidence of sustained accident reduction remains limited. The results also highlight technical, organizational, ethical, and human-related barriers, including usability, interoperability, privacy concerns, worker acceptance, and data governance. Based on this synthesis, a conceptual human-centered implementation model is proposed to support responsible and context-sensitive adoption.

The speed and scale of technological change are raising concerns about the extent to which new technologies will radically transform workplaces. Com-petition for the best talent is being intensified, and talent management requires new approaches and innovative strategies for developing talent based on corpo-rate culture and its unique properties. By implementing and adopting technology in Human Resources Management (HRM), organizations create an employee lifecycle that spans from the initial Hiring Process to encompassing areas such as Performance Management, Learning and Development until the Offboarding, shaping a Talent Management journey. Despite implementing technologies, a continuous practice observed in numerous organizations, there are challenges. The HRM technological market has become massive, and concerns arise about adopting these technologies' costs, practicality, and purpose. Because of that, de-signing strategies for implementing technologies in HRM, specifically in talent management, is hard to overview. In this context, this document aims to present the need for developing a framework that aggregates the implementation process of technologies supporting talent management utilizing Design Science Research (DSR). The holistic perspective we propose aggregates understanding of business challenges and how they relate to the technology selection, technological capa-bilities and implementation process, and expected metrics and impact.
