Concreto nas primeiras idades: propriedades e modelagem termomecânica simplificada
Publicaçãopor Gomes, Flávio Mamede PereiraOrigem: OasisbrLarge dimension concrete structures or those with restrictive conditions for heat dissipation are particularly subject to cracking in the early ages. Several phenomena may occur simultaneously, such as autogenous reactions, plastic shrinkage or drying, and temperature variations, leading to deformations which may be the main cause of cracking in the early ages of concrete, if the structure is restrained. Thus, the behavior of the concrete must be satisfactorily modeled and foreseen. The thermal and mechanic properties of concrete can be determined by standard tests or by prediction models, depending on the time and values established for the remaining thermal properties. The calculation methodology may become complex, considering the influence of temperature in the exothermic of the reaction, within the theoretical framework of the thermo-chemical-mechanical couplings. However, it may be simplified, as it is the aim of this paper to demonstrate. As for the mechanical behavior, concrete is considered a viscoelastic material. The simplifications are adopted in relation to the resources and time available, or in relation to the specifications of the problem to be modeled. The modeling of the concrete structures with simple geometry in the early ages, such as reservoirs, foundation block or retaining walls is made by considering the material simply as elastic for purpose learning the coefficient of restrain, which correlates the tension in a certain point of the structure to the tension in a restrained bar. This allows a swifter calculation of thermal tensions in a specific point in the structure, based solely in the history of temperature and degree of restrain, in addition to the properties of the material, which is valid for some boundary situations. This enables the technical personnel not specialized to access relevant information about preventive and mitigating measures to be adopted against undesirable effects. -

Propriedades ópticas do K2LiAlF6:Cr3+

New and potential properties, characteristics, and analytical methods of ferulic acid: A review
Publicaçãopor Marcato, Dani CamiloOutros Autores: Spagnol, Caroline Magnani; Salgado, Herida Regina Nunes; Isaac, Vera; Correa, Marco AntonioOrigem: OasisbrPhenolic compounds are widely distributed in the plant kingdom and in the microorganisms. Cinnamic acid and its hydroxylated derivative-ferulic acid, are phenolic compounds. Ferulic acid possesses antioxidant potential, as well as anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. It prevents the harmful effects of radiation both as an ultraviolet absorber and as a free radical scavenger; it is not cytotoxic. Although ferulic acid has beneficial properties, it is hardly used in cosmetic preparations and has been rarely studied in the literature. Herein, we review the literature on ferulic acid, to provide information which can contribute to further research on the compound. -

Complete denture hygiene solutions: antibiofilm activity and effects on physical and mechanical properties of acrylic resin
Publicaçãopor Rocha, Millena MangueiraOutros Autores: Carvalho, Adrianne Moura; Coimbra, Flávia Cristina Targa; Arruda, Carolina Noronha Ferraz de; Oliveira, Viviane de Cássia; Macedo, Ana Paula et al.Origem: OasisbrAppropriated denture hygiene is a predictive factor for longevity of rehabilitation treatment and maintenance of the oral mucosal health. Although, disinfectant solutions are commonly used as denture cleansers, the impact of these solutions on acrylic resin-based dentures remain unclear. Objective: To evaluate, in vitro, the antibiofilm activity of complete denture hygiene solutions and their effects on physical and mechanical properties of acrylic resin. Methodology: For antibiofilm activity measurement acrylic resin specimens were contaminated with Candida albicans, Candida glabrata and Streptococcus mutans. After biofilm growth, the specimens were assigned to the hygiene solutions: Distilled water (Control); 0.2% Sodium hypochlorite (SH); Efferdent Power Clean Crystals (EPC) and 6.25% Ricinus communis (RC). The viability of microorganisms was evaluated by agar plate counts. In parallel, physical, and mechanical properties of the acrylic resin were evaluated after simulating a 5-year period of daily immersion in the previously mentioned solutions. The changes in surface roughness, color, microhardness, flexural strength, impact strength, sorption and solubility were evaluated. Data were compared by ANOVA followed by the Tukey test or Kruskal-Wallis followed by the Dunn test depending on the distribution (α=0.05). Results: Regarding antibiofilm action, SH eliminated all microorganisms while EPC and RC exhibited moderate action against S. mutans (p=0.001) and C. glabrata (p<0.001), respectively. Relative to effects on the physical and mechanical properties of the acrylic resin, RC led to higher values of color change (p=0.030), hardness (p<0.001), surface roughness (p=0.006) and flexural strength (p<0.001). Moreover, RC induced the highest values of changes in solubility (p<0.001). EPC promoted greater changes in surface morphology, whereas immersion in SH retained the initial appearance of the acrylic resin surface. All hygiene solutions reduced the impact strength (p<0.05). Conclusion: SH presented the most effective antibiofilm activity. In addition, changes on properties were observed after immersion in RC, which were considered within acceptable limits. -

Properties of 3D-printed dental resins in fixed prosthodontics
Publicaçãopor Silva, Francisca Isabel CapeloObjectives: This review aims to provide an overview of existing literature information about the mechanical, surface, optical, antimicrobial, and biological properties of 3D-printed dental resins used in fixed prosthodontics, as well as to assess their in vitro properties with potential clinical relevance, longevity, and limitations. Materials and methods: Scientific databases such as PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Bielefeld Academic Search Engine were systematically searched up to April 2025, without time restrictions. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied according to the PICO strategy, considering only in vitro studies evaluating the properties of 3D-printed resins for fixed prostheses. Duplicates, non-relevant studies, and reviews were excluded. Results: 827 studies with significant contributions to dentistry were found, choosing those that highlighted relevant advances in the application of 3D-printed dental resins in fixed prosthodontics. Based on the descriptive synthesis of the results, conclusions could be made about the performance of the resins regarding flexural strength, hardness, and adhesive behavior, together with their biocompatibility profile. Although certain limitations remain, the findings indicate that, when supported by optimized printing parameters and post-processing protocols, these resins can ensure satisfactory short-term outcomes and patient acceptance in definitive restorations. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate significant potential for application in fixed prosthodontics and highlight the importance of establishing standardized methods and conducting long-term clinical studies. This review aids in material selection and clinical application, guiding future research towards improving 3D-printed prosthodontic resins for durable, biocompatible, and patient-friendly outcomes. -

Microalgae biomass as an additional ingredient of gluten-free bread: dough rheology, texture quality and nutritional properties
Publicaçãopor Khemiri, SheymaOutros Autores: Khelifi, Nadia; Nunes, Maria Cristiana; Ferreira, Alice; Gouveia, Luisa; Smaali, Issam et al.Origem: Repositório do LNEGABSTRACT: Microalgae have been widely used as a source of functional ingredients such as pigments, antioxidants, vitamins, and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. They also represent a promising alternative source of protein. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the addition of two green microalgae species (Nannochloropsis gaditana L2 and Chlamydomonas sp. EL5) on the techno-functional and nutritional properties of gluten-free bread. Microalgae biomass was added in the amounts of 1.0 and 3.0 g/100 g of flour. The behavior of the dough during the mixing as well as the physicochemical properties of the prepared breads were investigated. Gluten-free bread with N. gaditana L2 and Chlamydomonas sp. EL5 presented significantly higher protein and higher levels of lipids and ash, compared with the control bread. The incorporation of 3% microalgae biomass revealed a 100% increase in iron and calcium contents. The fatty acid profile of supplemented bread changed in a species-specific manner with a particular increase in linolenic acid (18:3 ω3) and a decrease in ω3/ω6 ratio. Besides, due to its original biochemical composition, mainly the highly protein content, microalgae incorporation was found to bring an overall structuring effect on the gluten-free bread texture. However, the dough mixing properties were not affected significantly by microalgae addition. A significant change in color was recorded in doughs, breads, crusts and crumbs. This was caused by the presence of pigment in microalgae biomass, which turned into more intense green-yellow tonalities. A sensory analysis revealed that the supplemented breads scored highest for nearly all the sensory parameters with the 3% N. gaditana L2 bread as the preferred one in terms of global appreciation. This innovative approach gives new insights of the possibility of improving gluten-free products, structurally and nutritionally, using only microalgae as a natural and a sustainable food ingredient. -
