The present study was conducted to explore the hidden potential of natural products synthesized in the medicinal plant Tinosporacordifolia. This plantis prioritized by National Medicinal Plant Board, New Delhi. Leaf and inter nodal segments were inoculated on MS Medium fortified with IBA (1.0 mg/L) produced callus after four weeks. The calli were brown due to phenolic substance secreted by the explant. This problem was overcome by using adjuvant PVP (0.1%). Further, secondary metabolites were isolated from callus and field leaf through soxhlet extractor and fractionated by using column chromatography. The antibacterial activity of these fractioned extracts from Tinosporacordifolia callus and leaf were seen against multi drug resistance bacteria viz., Escherichia coli (ATCC 25922), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, (ATCC 27853) & Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 29213) and against plant pathogenic fungus Fuseriumoxisporum(MTCC 8608) and Sclerotiniasclerotiorum (MTCC 8785). All fractionated extracts showed antimicrobial activity but callus extracts were proved to be best in compare to leaf extracts. Furthermore, we are trying to analyze different bio active compounds through GCMS.

Nanocrystalline BiVO4 on monoclinic phase was obtained by a modified-solution combustion synthesis (SCS) using poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG 6000) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as stabilizing and surfactant agents, respectively. An active photoanode was built using a simple procedure by dip-coating deposition process on fluorine-doped tin dioxide (FTO). The structure, morphology and optical properties of FTO/BiVO4 photoanode were evaluated by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy. The photoelectrochemical performance measurements were carried out by linear sweep voltammetry (LSV), chronoamperometry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) under InGaN blue light emitting diode (LED) illumination condition (about 450 nm). In Na2SO4 electrolyte solution, the electrode has presented better photoelectroactivity than in NaNO3 solution, as evidenced by photoelectrochemical parameters such as: the highest photocurrent density (js) value, cathodic shifts of the onset potential (OP) and lower charge-transfer resistence (Rct). In the methyl orange (MO) degradation reaction the FTO/BiVO4 electrode has presented high photoelectroactivity, where the estimated kinetic constant rate (kobs) is 4.74 × 10−3 and 7.54 × 10−3 min−1 in NaNO3 and Na2SO4 solutions, respectively. This remarkable performance of the as-prepared electrode is due to the morphological BiVO4 structure, with elongated-shape nano-sized domain particles, besides the considerable porosity and roughness levels on electrode surface.

Poly(D,L-lactide), PDLLA, is a polymer with potential applications in medical, environmental, and pharmaceutical areas. Despite its versatility, the hydrophobicity limits its applications. To overcome this problem, one strategy is the preparation of blends with hydrophilic polymers such as poly(vinylpyrrolidone), PVP. In this study, we report the preparation and characterization of blends based on PDLLA and PVP and the biodegradation studies by the Sturm test. It was observed that the components of the blends PDLLA/PVP are thermodynamically immiscible, however the biodegradation is faster than that of pure PDLLA.

Abstract During different phases of in vitro culture, plant tissues may be exposed to some stresses that never encounter in their natural habitats. The most significant stresses which interfere with in vitro culture are pathogenic contamination and browning disorder. Since browning sign is occurred during all phases of in vitro culture of Spartium junceum L., the present study was done preventing explants from browning during disinfection and callogenesis phases using exposure time of sterilants (ethanol 0, 30, 60 s and home bleach 0, 10, 15 min), antioxidant compounds (PVP 0.5%, Activated charcoal 0.1%, Curcumin 0.1%), Running water (30 and 60 min) plant growth regulators (2,4-D 0, 0.5, 1 and 2 mg L-1 and BA 0, 0.1 and 0.2 mg L-1), and by changing light/dark conditions was designed. The results showed that ethanol 70% (30 s) in combination with home bleach 20% (10 min) had the best effect in control contaminations and browning sign in nodal explants of S. junceum. The application of PVP 0.5% in medium was the best treatment to control of browning nodal explants in callus induction phase. The highest callus formation and the lowest explant browning were obtained on the medium supplemented with 0.5 mg L-1 2,4-D under the darkness condition. According to the results of this study, how disinfection methods, culture medium compositions and light conditions were effective on the browning and callogenesis of Spartium junceum L.

Hydrogels have been extensively explored for biomedical applications due to their ability to absorb high water content in its structure, which gives excellent biocompatibility. This work aims at obtaining biocompatible hydrogels with potential for use in increasing the mechanical strength of bone substitutes, or controlled drug release. Poly (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) hydrogels were prepared by free radical polymerization with and without the addition of acrylic acid. Azobisisobutyronitrile and ammonium persulfate were used as initiator and N,N-methylenebisacrylamide was used as the crosslinking agent. The characterization of the hydrogels was performed by thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectroscopy and swelling properties. The results obtained demonstrate different degrees of crosslinking and swelling of up to 490 ± 30%. The different properties of the hydrogels suggest different applications.
