Decoding Journalism in the Digital Age: Self-Representation, News Quality, and Collaboration in Portuguese Newsrooms

    Publication
    by Canavilhas, João
    Other Authors: Di Fátima, Branco
    Origin: uBibliorum
This paper analyses the self-representations of Portuguese media professionals and their work practices. Utilizing data from a broader empirical study, this paper delves into the dynamics of influence among various actors within newsrooms. Based on journalists’ perceptions of the content, the methods they use to assess the quality of the news are also identified. To address these enquiries, a survey was conducted among professionals engaged in the news production process. This sample comprised 72 individuals from various sectors of newsrooms, including photographers, designers, IT professionals, social media managers, and videographers. The main results indicate that seven out of ten respondents acknowledged their reliance on colleagues in newsrooms for success. Furthermore, the data suggest that there are no significant disparities among different professionals, with personal satisfaction emerging as the primary criterion for assessing the work quality. It is notable that almost twice as many women tend to indicate the low impact of the journalist on their work compared to male respondents. Moreover, most respondents stated that there is space for hybrid professionals in newsrooms.

The Crank–Nicolson–Galerkin Finite Element Method for a Nonlocal Parabolic Equation with Moving Boundaries

    Publication
    by Almeida, Rui M.P.
Other Authors: Duque, José C. M.; Ferreira, Jorge; Robalo, Rui J.
    Origin: uBibliorum
The aim of this article is to establish the convergence and error bounds for the fully discrete solutions of a class of nonlinear equations of reaction–diffusion nonlocal type with moving boundaries, using a linearized Crank–Nicolson–Galerkin finite element method with polynomial approximations of any degree. A coordinate transformation which fixes the boundaries is used. Some numerical tests to compare our Matlab code with some existing moving finite element methods are investigated.

The aim of this paper is to study the convergence, properties and error bounds of the discrete solutions of a class of nonlinear systems of reaction–diffusion nonlocal type with moving boundaries, using the finite element method with polynomial approximations of any degree and some classical time integrators. A coordinate transformation which fixes the boundaries is used. Some numerical tests to compare our Matlab code with a moving finite element method are investigated.

Métodos mistos aplicados à pesquisa em ambiente de convergência

    Publication
    by Moraes, Francilaine
Other Authors: Resende, Viviane de Melo
This paper aims to discuss relations between Depth Hermeneutics proposed by Thompson (1995) and Critical Discourse Analysis, specifically the so-called Textually Oriented Discourse Analysis proposed by Fairclough (2003), as mixed methods applied to research on processes of participatory practices in the media. The methodology of the research we discuss here results from the combination of these instruments and supports the analysis and interpretation of data collected and generated in a case study. The research scenario is a converging environment, including the convergence of technology, media, public and genres. The findings denote that dialogue between the two qualitative approaches enables the research of discursive processes involving social issues.

Controle populacional do protozoário Giardia lamblia com resultados experimentais

    Publication
by Freitas, Wilton dos Santos de
    Origin: Oasisbr
